Horizon Recruitment: New Ways of Doing Business for an Old Hand in the Industry

The Project

When Horizon Recruitment partnered with The Web Company in early 2009 they already had a well established reputation within the recruitment industry. However their website did not reflect this and was not performing in the way Horizon needed it to. For almost 15 years Horizon had been working with New Zealand businesses in the area of specialist recruitment, taking a professional yet personal approach to staffing solutions. Horizon had a point of difference that set them apart from their competitors. The Web Company’s charter was to present Horizon’s point of difference through their online presence.

The Challenge

The two main objectives with the Horizon Recruitment redevelopment was the integrity of the design and the search engine optimisation of the site. The design was meant to capture the company’s image, and present the varied specializations they offered through their recruitment consultants. The design needed to appeal to the employer market while at the same time leading career seekers to relevant areas within the site.

From an SEO perspective we were aiming to boost the rankings of the site through technical optimisation, content development, and internal and external linking. This would follow onto increased traffic and conversions.

The Process

When The Web Company first engaged with Horizon Recruitment and met with John and Toni Henderson it was clear that they’d done their homework; both were keen to understand the strategic elements of the website optimisation process. Time was spent discussing the recruiting business, recommendations from a design and SEO perspective, and discovering what Horizon really wanted from their website. Working alongside John and Toni, The Web Company came up with the design layout, keyword targeting, navigation structure and content based on research and discussions.

The Web Company’s lead web designer turned the discussion into a compelling design that the entire team was really happy with.
From an SEO perspective, The Web Company’s online marketing team added their creative and technical touches and the site was launched with great success.

The Result

The team at Horizon was very happy with the design and build process and spent a lot of time working closely with The Web Company to get all the finishing touches just right. Once the website went live, the search results rankings quickly improved which in turn had a positive impact on traffic to the site.

The site launched in April 2009 and over the first 6 months saw some great results. From June to November 2009, traffic increased from 660 visits for the month to 934. Horizon was also ranking and attracting visitors for a range of keywords they had previous had very little or no traffic for. For the keyword “recruitment agencies Auckland” traffic increased from 0 visitors in June to 164 visitors in November 2009.

The Web Company also took over Horizons hosting and e-mail services providing them with greater security and full-time support.
The key to the success of this project and to the ongoing success of the website was the collaboration between the team at Horizon and The Web Company. Dealing with a client with an invested interest in the long-term success of their website and a good understanding of the importance of the web channel earmarked the project for success.

Horizon Recruitment continues to look for ways to improve their website and The Web Company continues to work in partnership with Horizon to turn that vision into reality.
